66, Glace Bay

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our son, husband and father, Boots Boutilier, 39 Reserve Street, Glace Bay on Sunday, January 24, 2010.

Born in Sydney, he was the only child of Mildred "Polly" Boutilier and the late Ernest Boutilier.

Boots worked many years in the insurance industry, first as an adjuster then as the manager of Island Insurance in North Sydney. He was a founding partner in the MacLeod Lorway Group and was Vice President until his retirement in 1999.

Boots' passions were fishing and gardening. He spent many hours at his summer home in Margaree either on the river or in his garden. He excelled on the horseshoe pitch and won many tournaments at Northside East Bay.

He was past-president of the Cape Breton Canoe and Geographic Society, and the Cape Breton Anglers Association. Boots was also a long standing member of the "card club".

To The Family of the Late Wilfred Hamilton "Boots" Boutilier: I am writing to express my sincere sympathy on the death of your loved one, Boots. Those whose lives he touched will not soon forget his contribution to the community. Words can never put into perspective the sorrow and emptiness that is suffered at such a loss as yours. I do hope your pain is eased somewhat by knowing that others too feel sadness and want to share that very heavy burden. I will be thinking of you all in the days ahead. My prayers are with you. Sincerely,
— Rodger Cuzner, MP Cape Breton-Canso

I wanted to pass on my heartfelt condolences in your loss. Boots and I were great friends back in our teenage years and we spent many an evening on the Sydney Harbour fishing for mackerel. For every one I'd catch he would catch 20. Besides the fishing we would hang around the "Y', go to movies or "score the drag". They were great times. Boots was a good friend, a great guy, gentle and caring. My deepest sympathies. Doug Vail

I can not tell you how sorry I was to hear about your dad. I know that you were very close to him and this is a very difficult time for you and your family. I lost my dad when he was 56 years old so I think that I can understand some of what you are feeling. Please extend my deepest condolences to your mom, brother, grandmother and your extended family. I never knew your dad but often heard you talk of him. He has passed on a lot of the qualities you admired in him to you! I hope you find some comfort in this.
