It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Francis M.
"Francie" Tighe, 62, of Lingan Road, River Ryan, on Feb. 21,
2010 at home.
Francie was born and raised in New Victoria and later settled in River
Ryan. He was employed with Atomic Energy of Canada for 11 years and
later worked construction as a pipe fitter and supervisor throughout
Canada and the United States. He was a member of Local 682, plumbers
and pipe fitters union.
Francie spent several years as a county councillor for the former
District 5, was a member of the St Michael's Men's Club and worked
tirelessly on the building committee for the construction of St.
Michael’s Church.
Francie enjoyed telling stories about growing up as the youngest in a
family of 16 children in Waterford Lake. He thoroughly enjoyed
singsongs with his family and eating lobster with his brothers at
Eddy’s house.
Francie is survived by wife Colleen (MacDonald) Tighe, 42 years, son
Robert (Jenn), Winnipeg, MB, daughter Angela (Kevin), Kingston, ON and
five grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Colton, Colin and Danny
Tighe (Winnipeg, MB) and Paige and Lauren Douglas (Kingston, ON);
brothers Jack (New Waterford), Eddie (Colleen), River Ryan, Tony
(Elaine), New Victoria, Vince (Lorraine), Boston, Harry (Stella), Port
Hawkesbury, brother-in-law Billy Hinchey, New Waterford; sisters Verna
Lovell (Horace), River Ryan, Catherine McRury, New Victoria, Anita
MacKenzie (Winston), New Victoria, Agnes Kelly, New Victoria, Anna
Currie, New Waterford, Lovie Murphy (John), Sydney, sisters-in-law
Mary Tighe, Polly Tighe; mother and father-in-law Colin and Mary
MacDonald, brothers-in-law John Mac Donald (Diane), Raymond MacDonald
(Lorraine), Lawrence MacDonald (Barbara) and sister-in-law Anita
Tatlock (Derek) all of River Ryan as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Francie was predeceased by parents John “Jack” and Willena
(Turnbull) Tighe, brothers Tommy, James, sisters Victoria Corbett,
Willena Hinchey, brothers-in-law Buddy Kelly, Bernie Corbett, Don
McRury, Mike Currie; sister-in-law Carmel Tighe.
Visitation will be Held Friday, Feb. 26, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J.
McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral
mass of celebration will take place Saturday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. in
the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Father Paul
MacNeil officiating. A luncheon will follow at St.Leonard's Hall on
Convent Street, New Waterford. Burial will be in St. Michael cemetery
at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the the
Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of
