It is with sadness we announce the passing of Angus 'Bicky' MacKinnon, 80, of Scotchtown on March 4, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late 'Big' Archie and Belle (MacKenzie) MacKinnon.

Bicky was a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard as well as a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Anthony Daniel Council 3209, New Waterford. He was a coal miner with Devco for 44 years until his retirement. In earlier years, Bicky enjoyed hunting in Brook Village. He also liked a game of Tarabish or 45's. Bicky's true passion, however, was being around horses. He enjoyed many memorable trips to the horse races with his brother Peter and his nephew, Peter.

Surviving are his wife, Ida (King); sons, John (Linda), Mira, Russell, at home, Danny (Patsy), New Brunswick, Angus (Debbie), Winnipeg; daughters Sandra (Rick) MacDonald, River Ryan, Cathy (Ioan) Florean, Halifax; brother Peter (Geraldine), River Ryan; sisters Thersa LeLevier, Joan (Bernie) McKinnon, both of Bedford; six grandchildren, Shana, Richard, Kyle, Cameron, Rebecca, Alexander; one great-grandchild, Brynn; several nieces and nephews.

Bicky was predeceased by his brother William and sister, Anna Cormier.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Monday, March 8 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard with Father Doug MacDonald officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Carmel Centre. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton. Members of the K.O.C. are asked to assemble at the funeral home for a prayer service on Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
